Renaming Human Design Things
I had a fun breakthrough while making Big Little Books yesterday. I’m all about renaming Human Design terminology in ways that make the system more actionable and inclusive. It was early in my HD journey that I renamed the lines of the profile for myself. I sort of liked the idea of being a “Role Model” (line 6) but was NOT about being a Martyr (line 3). So I re-named them with terms that spoke to the spirit of the expression of that line, but felt empowering and actionable.
At first I wondered “Who am I to rename things?” but I thought about it for a while and examined my intentions with renaming. I didn’t just want the “Clare-branded” names for these things, I wanted terms that I related to that my friends and clients might also relate to. This wasn’t a move coming from ego, it was me trusting my ability to phrase things in ways that help people connect and understand. (Hello Channel 48-16 superpower!)
Here are the original names and what I call them instead:
Profile Line Names
Line 1: Investigator -> The Line of Depth
Line 2: Hermit -> The Line of Ease
Line 3: Martyr -> The Line of Discovery
Line 4: Opportunist -> The Line of Connections
Line 5: Heretic -> The Line of Solutions
Line 6: Role Model -> The Line of Wisdom
Profile Nicknames
The names for each line came to me easily and I started using them in my own Human Design experiment and then with clients. However, it took me a lot longer to discovery what my nicknames for each individual profile are. They finally came to me yesterday, so I’m sharing them here, as well as including them in Big Little Books going forward.
And, full disclosure, they may change. The way I express my insight on this system changes as my experience does, and I’m at peace with that.
Here we go:

1/4: Friendly Sage
